GIANT waves on the way for the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing event

The north shore is abuzz right now with reports of a couple of big swells headed our way, but one in particular which is being called the largest most have ever seen forecast.

Many hard core longtime surf watchers are claiming that this is THE biggie! Some even calling the largest swell forecast in decades. “Gulp!” Right now, it’s expected that the big stuff will be hitting us twice this coming monday and tuesday. Stay tuned folks and in the meantime, here are some pictures from the Eddie Aikau opening ceremony yesterday at Waimea for the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing contest. They ran it earlier than previous years, so I missed the actual ceremony itself, but got some cool images of the crew crossing the beach and paddling out.
