Lanikai beach in Hawaii One of the best beaches in the USA

I’ve lived in Hawaii now for 15 years already, yet I’ve spent so little time on the south east coasts of the island. Being very involved with the surf industry for most of those 15 years, I pretty much always gravitated around the north shore.

Since I started building my business, selling my art images on canvas, I’ve opened my horizons right up in a never ending quest for new pana-vistas. That is not necessarily anything to do with surf at all, I now seek out panoramic views of idealic seaside scenes. There’s a lot of satisfaction in rolling up to a new place that you’ve never been before, especially in early dawn light and finding something truly beautiful that you were completely unaware of up until that moment. I love those moments and they happen with quite a degree of regularity for me, especially now that I let my artist’s eye do most of the direction in my daily photography endeavours. I started out photographing very much on the water’s edge at a very low angle and to this day, that style still rules a large degree of my creative work, especially on the beach. Along with my friend and photographer extraordinare Steve Gorman, we drove down to Lanikai beach specifically to catch the sunrise. It’s about a 1 hour drive down from the north shore, largely in the dark, but it’s an amazing view to look out and see the sun rising behind the Moku islands. well worth getting up in the dark for. I highly recommend it.
