More Tasmanian point-break goodness

Sterls, pausing to take in the beauty of a classic Tassy point break.

Been a lot of banter going back and forth these past few days about our beloved Tasmanian point breaks. We actually have quite a few of ‘em around the place, up and down the coasts and particularly on bigger swells, a lot of ‘em just kind of pop up, waiting for someone to come along […]

Epic short lived Pipe Session.

Late afternoon Pipe feb 26th 2010

Well folks, it sure has been a weird old week here on the north shore. It started out with the tsunami threat which most folks took quite seriously indeed. Ever since that day, it’s been howling trade winds at varying degrees of knots between 20 and 50. Pretty much victory at sea conditions, for the […]

North shore sand bars light up again for 2 day marathon

dreamy clean and uncrowded this morning.

It seems that the picture which I posted yesterday morning, entitled; AquaBlade was a bit of a omen, but in a good sense. That is exactly how the sandbars at Pupukea have been looking for the past 2 days, here on the north shore. The water has been absolutely crystal clear translucence, dreamy blues and […]

Pipe shines with an all star crew

Japanese Pipe legend; Takayuki Wakita charging deep at Pipe.

As many Pipe specialists will tell you; It’s been a great season unless riding the Pipe is your gig. If that’s the case, this has been probably the most frustrating of seasons for the Pipe surfer. We’ve had pumping swellpretty much since late August and the only real

Flynn Novak surfing in the land of the giants.

Uh Oh! I’m starting to have flashbacks to that old TV show “Land of the Giants”, but man, the waves are soooooo good, that no one even cared aout the giant dudes.

Davey’s Wavey Gravy. Get your’s today

Sean Davey's Wavey Gravy.

Waves have always been a major target in my viewfinder. My very first photo was of a Wave, way back in 1977. I’ve been building my collection of wave images for somewhere like 25 years now. These images here represent just a handful of the entire collection, but they are some of my favorite wave […]

Jamie OBrien wins the 2010 Volcom Pipe Pro

Jamie OBrien and one proud dad Mick, in their backyard.

Jamie OBrien just took out the 2010 Volcom Pipe pro surfing event right here at Pipeline, on the north shore. This is just a quick report right now. I’ll file a more detailed one later. The results were: 1st Place: Jamie OBrien 2nd Place Anthony Walsh 3rd place: Mark Mathews 4th place: Danny Fuller.

Awesome waves ensure, the Volcom Pipe Pro go’s off!

VolcomPipe_012810_0223

My wife Lane has been waiting just about all season for the ugly sandbar to move away and let Pipe do it’s thing properly. Finally, it did this morning, all be it under still ragged and large swell which at times was rolling entire heats of contestents. Those contestents found themselves in a real life […]

Ehukai_012210_0111

Absolutely beautiful conditions here on the north shore yesterday and I guess we could be expecting more today. I just love it here when it settles down and produces days like this.

Almost empty lineups lead to dream surfs for lucky few

That Quik' dude again getting shacked on a left as well.

They again called off the Backdoor Shootout event this morning and when I passed my wife coming back early from that direction, I figured, it couldn’t be good. Strangely enough, I guess the tide turned at the moment that I arrived because there were crew getting pretty deeply shacked at Pipe Barrel going down as […]

A pleasant afternoon on the north shore

Jesse Merle Jones - Off The Wall Dec 1st 2009

It’s been a few days of relentless wind and rain squalls, so it was a bit of a pleasant surprise when it turned sunny with light off-shores this afternoon. I guess everyone was watching it because there were way more photographers than name surfers at Off The Wall, this afternoon. There’s so much sand sitting […]

Anyone who’s watched the north shore over the past 15 or 20 years will tell you thruthfuly, who the best guys are out at Pipe. One guy that will be on everyone’s list is Derek Ho. He always finds the cleanest most beautiful Pipeline barrels and rides them with absolute ease, grace and supreme balance. […]

Wipeout of a lifetime

Wipeout of a lifetime at Pipe. Sep 25th 2009

We had our first real day of solid swell for the season, 2 days ago. It was easily the best opening day for Pipeline that I’ve seen. relentless swell through out the night moved a great deal of the sand before daylight, although there was still some pretty heavy backwash and wobble happening out in […]
