Gifts from the sea.

I’ve always had an interest in the seaside, all the way from a when I was a small child. The smell of the drying kelp on the beach, the scuttling of sand crabs as you approach. It’s all standard fare at the beach. What I’ve always dug on though are sea shells. They seem to […]

There’s nothing like a roll around the shore-break, to start the day out

…my favourite thing has always been to capture the sun coming up while in the surf, itself.

Blue Hawaii this morning

I swam from sunrise this morning across the sand-bars between Pipeline and Rocky Point. It was spectacular, to say the least. In every direction that I looked, there were perfect waves, many of them completely unchallenged. I love these kind of mornings. They really bring home how special the ocean is in our lives.

Perfect surf line-ups everywhere

Folks, there is a whole world of perfect surfing waves out there. I’ve touched on quite a few of them over the years during my travels and certainly there are many that I still haven’t gone anywhere near, but what is amazing, is how many perfect waves still exist out there, so many still unridden. […]

Some watery gems from this morning, on the north shore

The north shore has once again returned to a sleepy hamlet this morning, much like how it is in the middle of summer, however I’m sure that it will short-lived. Word was that quite a few big parties were happening at all the surf team houses last night. They were probably all sleeping it off […]

Wave of the day – Green Shimmer

Green Shimmer

I have thousands of wave images , but this is one of my more recent favorites. Photographed here on the north shore, I captured this gem soon after sunrise. As anyone who knows me will agree, I love to photograph the 1st and/or last hours of the day because this is where all the awesome […]

Wave of the day – Aqua Gold Curl

Aqua Gold Curl

Todays wave of the day was photographed very early morning, in fact, right on the moment that the sun appeared over the hill. There was just the right amount of water flowing back down from the beach to give this wave the extra bit of curviature that it needed to produce this moment for my […]

Charlie Carroll – pedal to the metal

Surf shot of the day- Charlie Carroll at Backdoor

Folks, I’ve chosen this killer image of Hawaiian surfer ; Charlie Carroll going very fast at Backdoor Pipe. If you’re wondering, no it’s not like this at the moment. I just wanted to share a cool surf image. enjoy!

Featured art print of the day – “Evening Glass”

"Evening Glass" - shown here as a Triptych Canvas

Folks, today, I present to you one of my personal favourite wave images – Evening Glass I photographed this one several years ago in Tahiti at the end of a very long day out in the boat. As we motored back into the Marina, these perfect waves were rolling along behind us, and so I […]

Pipeline Lagoon pumping

South Swell at Pipeline beach

I was up early this morning to check out the new pulse of swell. There was hardly anyone anywhere. A few random tourists and the usual but where were all the surfers?… It didn’t really bother me though, I just slipped into Daveys Wavey Gravy mode and took pictures of the waves in the lagoon. […]

Tube Flare – latest print in the Davey collection

Print name - Tube Flare

Folks, entitled “Tube Flare”, this image is the latest addition to my 20 year collection of wave images, known as the OCEANS collection. Enjoy

Full Moon over Sydney Harbour

Sydney Harbour bridge and Opera House with full moon at twilight

Sydney Harbour really is one of the worlds great city views. There are thousands of beautiful city-scapes all over the world, but very few as beautiful or as immediately recognisable as Sydney‘s spectacular skyline. It really is just about as unique as they come with the world famous Sydney Opera House which was completed in […]

A view of a wave from behind and underwater

Beach Barrel

You ever wondered what a wave looks like as it depletes itself upon the beach ? Wonder no more. Here is a view of a wave, here on the north shore , but this image was actually taken underwater, behind the wave as it broke upon the beach. I’ve always photographed waves. The very first […]

A golden North Shore outrigger sunset

Haleiwa Outriggers in the afternoon sunlight.

A familiar site with anyone who cruises around Haleiwa in the late afternoons, here on the north shore are the outriggers . Prety much most afternoons, they are there doing their thing with the sun setting in the background. Photographing it was a bit like the proverbial saying “shooting ducks in a barrel” Too easy.

Pipe shines with an all star crew

Japanese Pipe legend; Takayuki Wakita charging deep at Pipe.

As many Pipe specialists will tell you; It’s been a great season unless riding the Pipe is your gig. If that’s the case, this has been probably the most frustrating of seasons for the Pipe surfer. We’ve had pumping swellpretty much since late August and the only real

Amazing image of the day

under water view of photographer and surfer at Pipeline

It is always my intent to keep this website not only informative and a great destination for surf photography and all things ocean related, but also to keep it entertaining for my many repeat visitors, who keep coming back to see what I’ve been up to, time and time again. Todays little offering is a […]

That’s Gold!

This is Cru Sarratt revelling in the green glow of a Rocky Point evening surf.

Davey’s wavey gravey train

I’ve been working really hard lately to get my site more up to date. More to the point, I’ve been adding more galleries. The latest to come on line, are my waves. I went through a collection of near 1,000 images from a 20 year time span, and culled it down to just under 300 […]

Finally a glorious sunny morning

…..”some of my favourite surfers were out and all too happy to carve up some water in front of my lens”…..
