Epic short lived Pipe Session.

Late afternoon Pipe feb 26th 2010

Well folks, it sure has been a weird old week here on the north shore. It started out with the tsunami threat which most folks took quite seriously indeed. Ever since that day, it’s been howling trade winds at varying degrees of knots between 20 and 50. Pretty much victory at sea conditions, for the […]

Epic Sunset Beach a few days ago

Classic Sunset - Feb 26th 2010

I was surprised to stumble upon pretty good quality surf at Sunset a few days ago. It’s taken me till now to get a clip together. Enjoy! Aloha Sean Epic Sunset Beach

“Waimea Power” nets another double

Gig poster for Kehau Sullivan's Aloha Jam on the 5th of March.

As many of you know, it’s been an amazing season here for really big surf. One of my favourite images from the recent big swell episodes was one such image that I captured late in the day before the Eddie ran. This picture of several surfers just scraping over a huge set wave at

SUP to da max! until it got too big anyway

Stand Up Paddle Surfer at the Sunset contest.

The SUP crew ( Stand Up Paddle surfers ) held a contest at Sunset Beach a few days ago and it was pretty border line on weather anyone really should have been out there. A very large west swell pushed the take off zone well over to Kammies which made for some interesting rides not […]

Pipe shines with an all star crew

Japanese Pipe legend; Takayuki Wakita charging deep at Pipe.

As many Pipe specialists will tell you; It’s been a great season unless riding the Pipe is your gig. If that’s the case, this has been probably the most frustrating of seasons for the Pipe surfer. We’ve had pumping swellpretty much since late August and the only real

Giants fail to deter surfers in quest for perfection

Flynn Novak surfing in the land of the giants.

Uh Oh! I’m starting to have flashbacks to that old TV show “Land of the Giants”, but man, the waves are soooooo good, that no one even cared aout the giant dudes.

Jamie OBrien wins the 2010 Volcom Pipe Pro

Jamie OBrien and one proud dad Mick, in their backyard.

Jamie OBrien just took out the 2010 Volcom Pipe pro surfing event right here at Pipeline, on the north shore. This is just a quick report right now. I’ll file a more detailed one later. The results were: 1st Place: Jamie OBrien 2nd Place Anthony Walsh 3rd place: Mark Mathews 4th place: Danny Fuller.

Awesome waves ensure, the Volcom Pipe Pro go’s off!

My wife Lane has been waiting just about all season for the ugly sandbar to move away and let Pipe do it’s thing properly. Finally, it did this morning, all be it under still ragged and large swell which at times was rolling entire heats of contestents. Those contestents found themselves in a real life […]

YLS mag features Davey Photography

I’ve been working behind the scenes for a while now with Adam over at yourlocalsurf.com He’s been putting out his own on- line surf mag for about a year now and I’ve helped him with the last couple of issues. This issue features some of my sequence photography of Teahupoo in Tahiti, right on the […]

Massive Monday pictorial on Surfline

Following on with all the excitement of the huge swells that have been belting the north shore lately; Surfline has just published another pictorial from the big swell 2 days ago, featuring a good portion of my imagery. Check it out here Aloha Sean Additional Images from Massive Monday at Waimea Bay

Huge perfect Waimea for every man – Jan 11th 2010

The Eddie Aikau big wave surfing contest has a commanding presence over Waimea Bay. Each year, surf season comes around and whenever there’s a sniff of a Waimea swell, there are hoards of sponsored big wave surfers all over it. This year was no different leading up to the Eddie, with quite possibly the most […]

Another Monster day at the Bay in store for tomorrow

We are expecting another huge swell at Waimea Bay tomorrow morning. Already the buoys have hit 25 feet, 17 seconds and are set to go higher till sometime tomorrow morning. I’ll be up in the dark tomorrow morning, scoping out the Bay. I might have a new swag of pictures to show tomorrow evening. Time […]

Did you surf Waimea on the 5th and the 7th of December?

I’ve had numerous surfers ask me about getting pictures from the Waimea sessions on the 5th and the 7th of december, right before the Eddie, so I went through all the pictures (and there’s a lot) and I placed a large gallery of images on my print site for you to look at. Normally when […]

I’ve added a new category to my images sets at surfphotosart.com this new one is simply entitled Waimea Bay Classics. Waimea spot check on Surfline

I’ve done some cool pictorials over the years with surfline, but none cooler than this awesome pictorial that just went on line today. It features a staggering array of amazing Waimea visuals, that I’ve photographed from over the years. So many classic moments, from Waimea close-outs, to when they built the road across the beach […]

Let’s help out Kehau Sullivan

As many of you know, I’ve been lucky enough to live here on the north shore for the past 12 or so years and during all this time, I’ve been really good mates with Pancho Sullivan and now his wife Hanauni and young family. Pancho and I have been on all kinds of trips to […]

Mick Fanning wins the world surfing championship at the Pipe masters

It was an amazing day of surfing at the Pipe Masters. Mick Fanning won his round three heat against young Hawaiian; Torrey Meister, keeping the dream alive, then the ball fell into Joel Parkinson‘s court for his matchup against Hawaiian surfer Gavin Gillette. Joel pretty much had the heat till a couple of minutes to […]

Pipe Masters runs another half day before holding off for the big stuff

It’s been a couple of days of the Pipe Masters already, but everyone’s is in such a daze after the recent Giant swell episode that the appeal of the Pipe Masters is not as it usually would be. Given that it’s only 3-5 foot on average, doesn’t help with one’s enthusiasm that much. We are […]

Awesome day at the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing invitational

Hi all, wow, what a few days, it has been. I slept over at the Rip Curl Off The Wall house the night before the contest because they said the roads would be closed down and I wanted to be right there, where it was all going down. The rumble of the ocean was just […]

Eddie went at Waimea Bay

Hi all, I’m super slammed here with a backlog of photo “processing” to do from the past few epic days at Waimea Bay, so I won’t dwell here long, but to say that it’s been an amazing couple of days here. I shot crazy huge Waimea yesterday morning for a few hours. It was massive […]

The Bay went HUGE today, but the Eddie waits another day

We have a massive, massive swell filling in round the north shore right now. I have to get right back up there before they shut it all down, so you won’t be hearing from me again till tomorrow night. Till then, check this beast from Waimea Bay, this morning….

Eddie Aikau, to Go or not to Go!

There’s all kinds of rumors running rampant around the north shore right now. Some crew even reckon the national guard is coming in tonight to road block the north shore and that it will be this way for 2 days. If that happens, what will become of the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing invitational, which […]

Ikaika go’s BIG at 20 foot Waimea on a SUP (stand Up Paddle) board

Hawaii’s Ikaika Kalama is quite the man when it comes to Stand Up Paddle surfing on the north shore. There’s pretty much no wave that he won’t have a go at. He’s become quite a local fixture at Pipe when it gets beyond 12 feet in size, but I never expected to see him or […]

GIANT waves on the way for the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing event

The north shore is abuzz right now with reports of a couple of big swells headed our way, but one in particular which is being called the largest most have ever seen forecast. Many hard core longtime surf watchers are claiming that this is THE biggie! Some even calling the largest swell forecast in decades. […]
