Crystal Curl – 26 x 80 inch triptych canvas

This art piece is titled Crystal Curl is one of my favourite wave artworks and it’s typically available in the following five sizes; I print and sign my own prints right here in the home studio and I only use archival quality canvas and inks from Epson to ensure that my artworks remain around for […]

New addition to the gallery – Sand grinder

I just added this image to the collection. Entitled as “Sand Grinder”, I photographed this image after several weeks of very little swell. Anyone who knows the north shore can attest to how quickly the sand builds up on all the beaches. Shooting at Pipeline on this morning, I was astounded at how much empty […]

A touch of Tahiti and big wave surfing

I’ve traveled to Tahiti numerous times over the years and it’s always an astonishingly beautiful place to visit. Many first time visitors will agree that it’s much like what one imagines Hawaii being like 100 years ago. Life is a simple contented existence on the land for many Tahitians, particularly out in the country areas. […]

The Pipeline book by Surfline

Surfline recently published a large coffee table book, simply called “The Pipeline”. It’s an amazing 200 page package that covers everything Pipeline, ranging from the old days right through just about every major moment, ever captured there. The place has a much more colorful past than most surf destinations and it thoroughly is deserving of […]

Blue Hawaii this morning

I swam from sunrise this morning across the sand-bars between Pipeline and Rocky Point. It was spectacular, to say the least. In every direction that I looked, there were perfect waves, many of them completely unchallenged. I love these kind of mornings. They really bring home how special the ocean is in our lives.

Wave of the day – Aqua Twist

from Pupukea on the north shore of Oahu - Aqua Twist

Today’s Wave Of The Day comes to you from one of my favorite places to photograph waves. On certain days of the year, the water at Pupukea Sandbar takes on an amazing aquatic glow. I love to swim and photograph on those days. The colors and contrasts in the resulting images are always stunning. And […]

Wave of the day – Green Shimmer

Green Shimmer

I have thousands of wave images , but this is one of my more recent favorites. Photographed here on the north shore, I captured this gem soon after sunrise. As anyone who knows me will agree, I love to photograph the 1st and/or last hours of the day because this is where all the awesome […]

Featured art print of the day – “Evening Glass”

"Evening Glass" - shown here as a Triptych Canvas

Folks, today, I present to you one of my personal favourite wave images – Evening Glass I photographed this one several years ago in Tahiti at the end of a very long day out in the boat. As we motored back into the Marina, these perfect waves were rolling along behind us, and so I […]

Tube Flare – latest print in the Davey collection

Print name - Tube Flare

Folks, entitled “Tube Flare”, this image is the latest addition to my 20 year collection of wave images, known as the OCEANS collection. Enjoy

Indonesian dreamscape – “Aqua Peel”

"Aqua Peel" - Indonesia

This from a trip, a couple of years ago in the Mentawai Islands, off the coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. We were cruising along and spotted this totally random little island, so we dropped anchor off it and I dived over the side of the boat with my water camera. It was a tiny little […]

Good times on the north shore

Wow, it’s been so spectacularly beautiful here on the north shore. Such beautiful glassy conditions with pretty consistent 3-5 foot waves. The amazing thing this year is the complete absence so far of traveling surfers. Just a handful of local surfers at any given spot. This must be about as close to the old days […]

Davey’s wavey gravey train

I’ve been working really hard lately to get my site more up to date. More to the point, I’ve been adding more galleries. The latest to come on line, are my waves. I went through a collection of near 1,000 images from a 20 year time span, and culled it down to just under 300 […]

There’s even magic in the lounge room

Have you ever been sitting there and glanced down to see that the corner of the carpet is curling upward? Whenever I see that stuff, I start mind-surfing the waves that this carpet has the potential for. One evening, I just went and grabbed my camera and decided to shoot some pictures, but not your […]

Shipsterns shines again

It’s now the 17th and I’ve already moved on to the final stage of my trip, up here on King Island. But before I left, I managed to squeeze in a couple of shoots at the always amazing Shipstern Bluff. There were a few name surfers from out of town like Jamie Obrien, Ryan Hipwood […]

Classic Surf moment: Martin Potter – Sydney

This is a flashback to a classic day at Sydney’s Whale Beach in 1996. Martin Potter scoring his favourite Sydney beach at it’s best.

Pipeline shines

As anyone will testify to round here at the moment, it’s been a very ordinary Jan and Feb for surf in hawaii. You can count the number of good Pipe days on one hand. Finally, we got some good Pipe yesterday, but the Bodyboarders had their event on, so I waited till 4.00pm when they […]

The sandbars are back!

Usually round this time of the year, the sand starts to pile back in on the beaches between Rocky point and Pipeline. The result is similar to Queensland’s pointbreaks on the gold coast. Just long tubular rights, breaking down perfectly groomed sandbars. Pancho called me up to say that it might be good for some […]

Classic surf moment: Tom Curren

It was the 94-95 Hawaiian season and I had just swum out for a leisurely shoot at Off The Wall, early one afternoon, when I spotted non other than Tom Curren taking off, so I put in the extra effort and was actually bodysurfing the wave as I shot it. This allows me to squeeze […]

underwater wonder-world

It was another one of those fine sunny mornings here on the north shore with clear water and small clean waves rolling through. here’s a few that I snapped this morning… Sean
