Kelly, Joe Derek Red and Eddie, from the vault

I just put together this slide show for the Aussie website;
The Collective from my epic 2001 trip to King island with Kelly Slater, Joe Curren and Eddie Vedder (from Pearl Jam). Check it out. It was a great trip!

Sean

A truly memorable trip from the archives, Sean Davey unlocks some images from the beautiful King Island. Kelly Slater , Eddie Vedder, Joe Curren Derek Hynd score all kinds of waves on the small island.

Back in early 2001, I had just had that siiiick shoot with Kieren Mark and Drew down at
Shipsterns Bluff , so I was already on a bit of a cloud, just having finished that shoot, then Mark Raynor called me from Quiksilver, asking me where he could send Kelly and Eddie for a couple of days. I suggested
King Island
as it’s a good low key place where they could go about their fun, unharrassed. So anyhow, we spent about 4 or 5 days down there just roaming around checking out different breaks, Kelly and Joe even named a new spot that hadn’t been ridden before “Let’s go Joes” There was good reason why it hadn’t been ridden before. Being right at the top of the island under a decent swell, the current was ridiculous.
Derek Hynd had just cleared a bunch of old wood and stuff on his property into a big pile and decided to have a fireplace singalong of sorts with Red Whyte.

Turned out to be quite a memorable show and then to top things off, Martha pumped the next day. Still the best surfing that I’ve seen there to this day. Epic stuff!
