New folio in Parafina Magazine

Hi all, I just found out about a folio that I had appear in the last issue of Parafina magazine in Brazil just ran a portfolio of my surf photography.
Now, as we have watched traditional publishing fade away, it is slowly being replaced with on line magazines which have a lot of features that you don’t find in normal magazines, such a video clips, music etc. Some of these on line mag’s have pretty average quality at best, but Parafina actually has excellent art direction indeed. These guys are on it. Check ‘em out here

I’m quite into my portraits at the moment. Thanks to a request from one of my magazine clients, I’ve picked back up on my quest for portrait excellence. I used to be really into my portraits portraits many years back, but after a recent portrait session here on the north shore, I’m all stoked on it again, so I thought I’d pull a dozen of my favourite portraits from the archives to share with you all. 5: I was walking along one day and happened to spot Joel Tudor
putting his classic old boards on his classic old car. Just a simple moment of serendipity, where an cool image came together, totally unplanned.
6: John John Florence back in 2000, I think. He was real young then.
7: At the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing contest ceremony at waimea Bay, a few years back. I wanted to have a little bit of motion in the image, to give it a feel of timelessness. The result was pleasing.
8: The 4 times world surfing champion; Mark Richards A really nice bloke too.
9: I love this picture of Mick Campbell. The black and white film that I was using at the time, really captured his numerous freckles and made for a compelling portrait.
10: I was hanging out with Pancho Sullivan in Tahiti several years back and he was swimming around in this super clear spring with his sunnies on. It looked cool for a portrait.
11: Martin Potter, captured here at the height of his fame as world surfing champion.
12: A young Kelly Slater back in 1992, looking like a young Elvis.

For those of you, looking in and hoping to see some big wave surfers, wipeouts and the Pipeline, you’ll have to wait a little longer. It’s another day of “victory at sea” conditions here on the north shore. That is to say that it’s wild and stormy out there despite beautiful sunny conditions, so here’s another photo of the day, this one entitled “Beach Girl” and as with most images you see on my site, you can order a print pretty much at any size you want by clicking here

The North Shore in Black and White – exhibition print sales

I’m holding an Art show at the Canon gallery in Honolulu from the 2nd to the 25th of November with a reception party from 11am to 1 pm on November the 2nd. This time around, I want to do something special and one-off, so I have made the images from this show limited to no more than 50 copies of each image will be released from this series. All images will be numbered and signed AND I am pricing the prints to make it affordable for any of you to have a real signed and numbered limited edition print. No more 2, 3 and $400 show prints. From now, you’ll be able to get a unique limited edition print at a fabulous price that won’t break the bank. My intention is simple. I want to see more of my work out there in your hands. Perfect conditions here on the north shore

Well, here we are into a 3rd week of what looks like a very early surf season here on the north shore. There’s been decent waves here almost every day for the past 3 weeks. We are even expecting a big swell in another day or two. This is a snap that I took of Sean Moody hitting the surf at Rockies, a couple of evenings ago. Enjoy!
