More to the point, I’ve been adding more galleries. The latest to come on line, are my waves. I went through a collection of near 1,000 images from a 20 year time span, and culled it down to just under 300 images. These represent the very best waves that I’ve shot in the past 20 or so years. All images are available as fine art prints or canvases. Also, my images are available for stock license. Just send me an email with the image/s attached that you are interested in.

On my 2006 trip with Mark Healey, Jamie Sterling and the Long bro’s, we scored the extremely elusive Hobart point-breaks on what many were calling the best point-break swell in over 10 years. As you would expect, I scored a ton of great photos of my traveling band of surfers, but I wanted to take this opportunity to show that the locals are all over these waves way more than anyone else. Simply put, if the points are on, all tools are downed. I put this pictorial together for the Aussie site; www.thecollective.net.au
Check it out……..

this is actually now the 5th of July, but I thought I would post something about how the 4th of July looked from this little corner of the world, out here on the north shore of Oahu in Hawaii, out in the middle of the Pacific.

I actually started my day off very early. I looked out into the dark, to note that it was quite still. Personally, I like it when there’s not much of a breeze because the water takes on a whole different look with the glassy textures and stuff. So I chugged down a coffee and drove down to one of my favorite hangs, to check the conditions. It was just before 6AM and the sun was fast approaching. My goal this morning was to try to capture some waves with, but looking almost straight towards the sun. Kind of tricky, but with the chaotic rythm’s of the oceans, you can get almost any shot on any kind of day. You just have to be in the equation. My buddy James (Romero) is paddling out on a longboard, so I seize the moment to shoot some lifestyle stock pictures of him paddling out against the awesome sunrise. James has caught a couple of waves and next thing, his roomie Jonathon (Bouware) is paddling out. James mentions that Jon’s a birthday boy today, so I knew I had to get a few pictures. The following pictures are a document of some moments throughout the session. My day was far from done however. next stop was the Annual paddleboard race from Sunset beach to Waimea bay. I got out there with a pair of fins and a fisheye, documenting the passing paddlers, just because it was something a little different. Then came the 4th of July fireworks at Turtle Bay and our day was complete. :) enjoy!

Our visit coincided with some damn tasty waves, especially at Bluff Reef. Mason surfed the place like no one else, consistently placing himself behind the peak on Take-off. This led to a few pretty intense take-offs, one of which impressed the editors of The Surfers Path, to give it their ultimate stamp of approval; the Cover shot. Here I present you The Surfers Path cover No 73 along with the actual picture.
Ben’s a long time friend of my wife and I and a really nice guy. It is said that it was actually one of Ben’s shapes that Mark Richard crafted his first twin-fin from. For those of you who aren’t up on surf history, Mark went on to totally dominate the sport of surfing with 4 consecutive world titles. I would not have thought that his record of 4 titles would have been beat, but here we are some 20 something years on and Kelly Slater has 9 of them. Wow!
Everyone I know who’s had a board shaped by Ben has been totally stoked on them, so if you want one, just get in touch with Ben by calling him at (1) 808-391 3903, right here in Hawaii or fire an email at him to: aipahawaii@mac.com

Aloha

It’s that time of the year when my attention turns to shooting images purely for myself. It’s really, really quiet here on the north shore. Everyone’s outta here on surf trips or hanging out in Bali or whatever it is that they do at this time of the year. This is when I can shoot just purely to please myself. Usually at this time of the year, it involves water because it is summer in Hawaii after all. About this time, the dolphins start to appear on the north shore spots and the bait fish are starting to gather into big schools at select locations. If none of that’s going on yet, then I’m probably photographing turtles or waves. Yeah waves! They aren’t big by any means, often quite small actually, but always an interesting spectacle to photograph. This is my latest piece simply called “Aqua Foam Wall” enjoy!
