Triptychs Guide
Triptychs are art pieces that are split into 3 evenly sized pieces and displayed together in a space, subliminally resembling a set of windows on a wall of your home. Such a wide field of view is well suited to wall areas above couches and bed heads, just to name two commonly used areas.
Triptychs come in one of three ratios: 2-3 radio (standard 35mm format), 1-2 ratio (semi-panoramic format) or 1-3 ratio (panoramic format).
Most typically come in landscapes, but there are also beach scenes in and even under the water.
Most folks purchase 18 x 58-inch or 30 x 90-inch panorama, but Sean can hand print any triptych at no extra charge.
While this gallery does include triptychs from the four corners of the earth including California, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, the Maldives, and Indonesia, it’s Hawaii that is truly represented here. Hawaiian triptychs shown include several islands such as Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Oahu, and The Big Island.
There’s something that really draws you in with triptychs. While they are really just one breathtaking image, it’s the cut of the image that forces you to focus on the beauty of that part of the image and appreciate the little parts that make up the whole.
Have a look at the various sizes of triptychs and see what you like. If you have a question for Sean or would like a custom-size triptych, email Sean and he will get back to you within 24 hours.
2-3 ratio: Standard 35mm format
2-3 ratio means that 1 dimension is 2/3rds the size of the other dimension. It’s the same as a regular 35mm frame which means that one side is 2/3rds the length of the other dimension. This splits into 3 pieces each vertical in a 1-2 ratio. The last two options are quadtych and quintychs.

1-2 ratio: Semi panoramic format
1-2 ratio means that 1 dimension of the art piece is half the size of the other dimension. It means that one side of the picture is half the length of the other dimension. This splits into 3 pieces each in a vertical 2-3 ratio arrangement. Bitychs and quadtychs are also shown.

1-3 ratio: Panoramic format
1-3 ratio means that one dimension of the art piece is 1/3rd the size of the other dimension. This ratio is basically panoramic format. One side is 1/3 of the other dimension. This splits into three pieces, each perfect square. Quadtych and quintych arrangements are also shown.

Though Sean does print extra large canvas and prints here, the triptych also allows for some truly colossal creations. For example, Sean can print the following depending on which you prefer:
- Largest Single piece canvas printable is 38 x 114 inches
- Largest Triptych canvas available is up to 114 x 114 inches (3 panels each at 38 x 114 inches)
- Largest Quadtych canvas (4 pieces) available is 114 x 152 inches (4 panels each at 38 x 114 inches)
- Largest Quintych canvas (5 pieces) available is 114 x 190 inches (5 panels each at 38 x 114 inches)
Just ask Sean what arrangements you’d like your chosen image to be printed into via email, artroom@seandavey.com, with “custom” Triptych in the subject line.
