Books & Collaborations

Sean has published 3 books of his own so far and collaborated with dozens of authors, publishers, and storytellers to share his love of surf photography.

Oceans, published in 2000, is full of amazing waves and seascapes from all over the world.

Fotografias da Alma, which means photographs from the soul in Portuguese, was published with Sean’s good friend, Romeu Andretta from Alma Surf Magazine in Brazil. The book is very much like Oceans, in that it, too, is full of amazing seascapes and waves. Since published, it’s been consistently sold out.

This is King Island, Sean’s 3rd book published around 2010, has sold quite well and can be found on www.Blurb.com. A small hardback book with over 120 pages of great stories and pictures of nature and seascapes, Sean created this over the course of 17 visits to this beautiful coastal island, located in Bass Straight, one of the roughest waterways in the entire world.

Sean first visited King Island for the King Island Festival in 1991, after meeting one of the island’s locals, Mick Fitzharding on Narrabeen beach in Sydney and getting an official invite.

Sean found it a little strange at first – people leaving their wallets and car keys on the dash of their car while they walk around town – but realized soon enough the culture. It’s a plain and simple, honest place where everyone seems to have a fair amount of respect for each other and their belongings.

On King Island, most folks work on the land. It’s one big farming community made famous for its quality gourmet foods, which are exported to the rest of the world every day of the week.

Known for having some of the finest beef and best cheeses in the world, King Island’s beef brand and dairy brand are famous. But it doesn’t stop there. The seafood, caught by the local fishing fleet here, holds the highest standards in the world. It’s a gourmet eater’s paradise of sorts here.

During those 17 magazine trips to King Island over the years, Sean introduced more than 40 professional surfers and numerous global magazines to Martha Lavinia Beach. With perfect surfing waves, this beach has been visited by several world champion surfers and appeared on and on the cover of numerous magazines, the world over.

Beyond the three books, Sean has collaborated with authors, storytellers, and biographers worldwide on many other books, collections, anthologies, and short stories to share his unique art and technique with the world. Below is a collection of featured publications.
