Avalon Sunset

I happened to visit this beautiful little town of Avalon about ten years ago and was amazed by how European it looked, compared to most of California. Though I was initially there early that day, I already knew that I was going to hang around and photograph this sunset from one of the nearby terraces.

Later that afternoon, we were getting ready to make the long walk up to the higher terrace streets when this local guy happened to roll past in his golf cart. He offered us a lift up to the top which was so cool. I knew at least, I wouldn’t be a sweaty mess when it came time for taking the picture. It’s a beautiful little town that looks like something straight out of Italy.

This very same picture also ran as a double-page spread in a large coffee table book about the island that is sold by several vendors there on Catalina Island.
